The final Round Table Artist's Weekend for the 2011 season will present duo artists Timothy L. Campbell and Alice DuBois. They will be debuting a brand-new collection of works in their show, I HAD A VISION, at the Frame Warehouse this week.

Alice DuBois and Timothy L. Campbell moved to Evanston in fall 2009. They have enjoyed successful showings of their artwork at a variety of venues, including the Evanston Public Library, Brothers K coffeehouse, Other Brother coffeehouse, Unicorn café, Vinic Wine Co., Linz & Vail café, I Dream of Sweets, Blick, and Urban Outfitters. For their third exhibition at the Frame Warehouse, they have assembled an all-new offering of solo and collaborative works on canvas and paper.

Alice DuBois finds ample inspiration in the natural world. Forests, and the creatures found therein, are at home in her art. With special attention to allegory and surrealism, DuBois draws upon a wealth of influences, including music, literature, and alchemy. She thinks art should be part of our everyday life, and she does commissions of pets and children.

Timothy L. Campbell is a writer, musician, and self-taught visual artist. His spirited, primitive-style paintings explore narratives that draw on language, history, and international travels. This exhibit will feature Campbell’s recent experiments, which include a journal of paintings, works on unprimed canvas, and small watercolors.

Frame Warehouse and the Artist's Roundtable present: Kim Cohen

Please join the Frame Warehouse for another edition of the Roundtable's Artist's Weekend, featuring the intricate papercraft works of Chicago artist Kim Cohen.

The opening reception is October 14th, 7pm - 9pm at the Frame Warehouse, and the show will run through November 9th.

Kim Cohen writes: "What began with my childhood love of origami has progressed to an admittedly obsessive passion for folding, cutting, and shaping paper. Each work starts with a simple observation of the curve of a leaf, or the color of a wing. This year, my emphasis has been on bringing the elements of my smaller pieces together to create fuller, more detailed work that tells a whole story. I have been experimenting with techniques to increase the realism and to emphasize the textures of each element."

Frame Warehouse and the Artist's Roundtable present: Bert Menco

The Frame Warehouse will be presenting a collection of paintings, intaligos, etchings, and drawings by Bert Menco this week, beginning with the opening reception on September 30th, from 7pm - 9pm.

The exhibition runs from September 30th to October 12th. The Frame Warehouse is located at 606 Dempster in Evanston.

Bert exhibited widely in the US and abroad. He won several awards, among them a Sponsor's Prize at the Third Sapporo International Print Biennale (1996, Japan). His work was included in The Best of Printmaking, An International Collection, Rockport Publishers, Gloucester, MA, 1997. His art is represented in many public and private collections, the latter including the Rotterdam Historical Museum in his native country, The Netherlands, and in the Illinois State Museum.

Bert rarely uses concrete references, but rather works from inner visions. He tends to be narrative in his own art, perhaps poetic narrative. He doesn’t see his images as telling a story but rather as reflections of inner feelings, similar to some poetry, and would like observers to read them as such. Bert likes to believe that his work carries a certain mystery. His images are very much "inside out.” Analyzing ones own art is difficult but he thinks that the dreamlike images tend to deal with confined spaces which contain certain characters that reach out to one another but do not quite succeed in meeting, a reflection of the precarious equilibrium mentioned above. Artist Weekend welcomes back Katherine Orr!

The next RoundTable Artist’s Weekend at the Frame Warehouse features the watercolor and ink paintings of Katherine Orr, with her art on display June 18 – 29, 2010.

Evanston resident Ms. Orr believes that artistic expression creates special moments every day, calling her new show at Frame Warehouse “Midsummer Magic.” In addition to her paintings in watercolor, ink, and mixed media, the show will include a variety of notecards with her art. Orr also has illustrated two children’s books, “The Little Prince Who Taught a Village to Sing” and “The Princess and Her Gift,” both available at the show.

Ms. Orr has previously exhibited at Lakeside Interiors, Link’s Sweet Bean Café, Café Ambrosia, Café Aroma, and As You Like It, with commission work as well. For more about Katherine Orr, check out her website at http://www.katorriginal.com.

"In pursuing the medium of watercolor I find ever more compelling and entrancing the qualities of color, light, reflection, luminoisity and form as they appear and reappear in the visual world. I’m especially moved by the landscapes, seascapes, and architecture I observe during our travels to western Europe. Most of these have been to France and to Scotland.

Indeed, so much of my inspiration flows from a deep attachment to each of these countries. As a young graduate student I lived for a year in Brittany, but I also spent some of my time in Paris and other provinces. As for Scotland, it is the land of my father, who was my first artistic mentor. What I rediscovered over the last several years in visits to Scotland is the utterly awesome beauty of the Western Highlands - the incredibly volatile climate and shifts within hours of wind-driven purple skies and then brilliant rainbows and sunshine

As a young child my earliest drawings and paintings earned me a scholarship to the Art Institute of Chicago. My serious study of watercolors, however, began relatively late in life when winding down my career as a clinical psychologist.

I now aspire to expand and to improve my palette and repertory, to study and to learn, knowing that the perfection I seek is beyond my reach.

My goal always in painting as well as in life is to make something special out of the ordinary."

BIO

Born: 1957 South Holland Il.

Schools: Chicago Academy of Fine Art, Columbia College

Ken is an award winning artist that has been painting since the age of 10. He is affiliated with the Chicago Artist Coalition, Chicago Arts District, Ottawa Art League and is an artist/board member of the Oak Park Art League. Ken currently has his work exhibited in the following venues, Oak Park Art League, The Next Picture Show (Dixon, Il) The Rush-Cope Center, August Hill Winery (Utica, Il ). Ken is also a musician and has played bass for many years.

We'll welcome the artwork of Ken Reif with a "wine & cheese" reception this Friday, February 26th, from 7 to 9 pm. Come enjoy!

About Lea
Lea Basile Lazarus received her BA in Art Education from The College of New Jersey and her MFA, with a concentration in Printmaking, from the Art Institute of Chicago. She has been teaching for thirteen years, the last nine at The Skokie School in Winnetka, Illinois. Do Your P’Art, a not-for-profit organization that enables city students and suburban students to establish relationships through the arts, has been an important part of her teaching experience in Winnetka. This summer, Do Your P’Art sent Lea to Ghana, Africa to explore the possibility of DYP collaborating with African schools. Lea was also a recipient of a Teacher Fulbright to Japan in October 2003, spending three weeks abroad learning about Japan’s culture, art, and education system. Lea has owned and operated a business for twenty years, specializing in the decorative and functional arts.
